I was born in the capital Ottawa, but my hart will always be in Cape Breton where my grandparents live and where my mother grow up. When I was a chilled, we would take a road tips down to the east coast for a few weeks in the summer or for Christmas. Or like this year we toke some holidays and drove down for Easter. This week the weather was foggy but that is not uncommon. Now Cape Breton is big my grandparents live in Petit de Gras. It on an Island that is of another Island that is of the main Island of Cape Breton.
There is may thing to do in the summer during tourists season witch normally stars after the long weekend in may. Its also that start of lobster season which my grandfather use to take part of but he is getting up there in age and he is not as mobile as when I was a chilled. So when I use to go down we did not do a lot of the big tourist attraction every time but we have done them especially if we bring a new guest. We preferred to relax and live like the locals and go to the beach and be with family.
One thing I love about the Island is the history that is found on the Island and that there is not just one culture that represents them from aboriginal, Acadian and Gaelic ancestry that us with them.
Here is a list of things to do on the Island. From a day ate the beach to soaking up history of the Island just like a sponge in water
Egypt falls

The falls trail is part of the Cabot trail in Margaree. Now this one is the hardiest one. Just simply for the inclination of the hill you must take to get to it. It is not one to recommend to someone that has a difficulty walking. Or bring small children but its to everyone’s capability. Now my parents have done it but I’ve never simply because I have very bad knees and the clime up is a trek its is like a 20min down hill but a 1h-1h1/2 hike up and that is even if you are in a good shape. They have ropes for you to use in some areas and you will need them for assistance because of the steepness. Bring a good pair of shoes and take your time and enjoy
Point Michaud beach

Its one of the many provincial parks in the province it’s a 3km beach with lovely clean sand and not many rocks. Point Michaud is also the best place to take surfing lesson because the waives our the biggest on the Island Point Michaud is near the town of St-Peters where you must stop and get some Ice cream and browse the local shops and visit the locks that mix see water and fresh water.
Cap Auguet Eco-trail
It is a beautiful area for a sunset at the lighthouse at the end of the trail. On one side of the trail there are rolling meadows and streams. On the other side are endless ocean vistas Follow the Isle Madame roadside signs to Boudreauville trailhead, where you will find parking, a picnic area, washrooms and orientation signs and maps. Allow half a day to hike the whole trail or choose a shorter route by following one or more of the many paths off the main trail. The beginning of the trail is lager and most local drive in a bit to a “parking” and walk the rest of the way and it’s a bout a half an hour walk. The road is bumpy to say the least and if it happens to have rained that day bring shoes that you don’t mind getting ditty. You will also need to cross over a small stream but there is no brig, so you’ll need to jump it or walk across.
Pondville Beach
It’s the beach that is the close to my grandparents and till recently I learned that it is a provincial beach. I always thought that it was just the local beach and that is what the locals called it but no. It’s a lovely 1km beach with white sand and even thought it can get busy with traffic it is still peaceful. There is no life guards on the beach so it is swim ate your discretion. While there pick up some beach glass (broken bottles that the see has softened the edges) it’s helps clean the sand and ocean. You can also pick up sand dollars. Now this information is not known by many people that are not local it’s called the back beach and you need to take a trial into the wood of the main beach. I do recommend going at low tied just to make it easier to cross the river. And you can walk out farter into the sand dunes where you can find lots of sand dollars.
Martinique Beach Provincial Park
Martinique is also a provincial park it is a lovely place for a picking and a lovely walk on the beach I also have many wonderful sunsets when its not fogy. It’s a lovely day out for a pick nick. It is also great place to see some Willed life like bald eagles. In Cape Breton they build platform on some of the lighthouses and some electricity polls for this bird of pray to build their nest on.

Fortress of Louisbourg
The Fortress was made by the French as a line of defence by see but where week on there defence by land the English saw that a way in and exploiting that weakness. Now there is only a ¼ of it that has been reconstructed and you may visit and experience life as the French did in the 1713. There is restaurant that you may eat at. When I was small, we ate there, and we ate in the main floor where the peasant would eat when they’d go to the tavern. The food was delicious. One thing they only give you one spoon per person for ever thing and you sat a long table with strangers. If you wanted to eat like the generals, you can pay more to get more cutlery and a fancier meal.
Sidney mines/Sidney
Take a drive to the Sidney coals mines and learn the way of living and the working condition by walking in a reconstructed part of the mind because One of the area mines extended about 5 miles (8 km) out under the sea. The last mine was closed in 1975.
Dundee
Dundee is a small community north of Sidney where there is a golf course and a resort. It’s also a beautiful place to go kayaking or cannoning in the lake
Museum of Alexander Graham Bell
Need I say more a whole museum on the inventor of the telephone and many more invention where you can look out to a small island a see a glimpse of Bells house that is still own by his family.

Acadian festival
The Acadian festival is a week in August where we celebrate or history of deportation by the English. The festival is a week long leading to the 15th which is National Acadian Day where there is a big parade with lots of noise called a tintamarre. Which means loud discordant noise.
